The Belgium Tour (or was it?)

It was almost the tour that never was. In fact, according to official records, it never happened, as Kensington could not raise a side to visit Belgium for the 23rd and 24th June weekend. However, for the unofficial record, four of us (the Aussies Nick Power and Joe Woodward, John Behar and myself) ended up making it to Belgium for the weekend, played in two great games of cricket and had a fantastic time. Thanks to Mechelen and Arcadians of Gent CCs for making it possible for us to play and for looking after us so warmly and hospitably. Incredibly, given the shambolic nature of our preparations, we took home some memories to treasure.   ...MORE
Youths v. Veterans Annual Challenge Match 2007

After the previous year’s last gasp, last ditch, closely fought tie, anticipation for the 2007 Youths v Vets match was running at fever pitch. Neej Nayar, self-styled cheerleader (but without the pom poms) of the Vets, was even moved to poetry as he did his Agincourt-routine on the eve of the game, hoping to spur his ageing troops on to new deeds of derring-doddery.   ...MORE

A tie was perhaps a fitting result to an entertaining match which enabled everyone, by and large, to retain their honour going into next season. The Vets retained the trophy by virtue of being the current holders, but their grip has been loosened and perhaps next year will signal a return to how things should be.    ...MORE
