Match Report A fitting finale to a successful season. Nayar ended with the most runs despite a valient effort by Bowden to close the gap.

The script could not have been written any better. Barnes batted first in this 40 over game and got off to a sound start despite accurate seam bowling from Matt and Elias. But it was Ashvin Bhatia who broke through Mike Thomas’ defence (65/1), and a run later skipper San fielding unusually at midwicket ran out the new batsman with a direct hit from his underarm roll - to the surprise of everyone, including the unsuspecting batsman. Ashvin and Saurav then tightened the grip with three more wickets between them as the runs dried up. Saurav with his flighted off-spin was very economical, his 8 overs costing only 15 runs. Hall and Wiley restored some momentum but the total of 161 after 40 overs was very under-par on this batting track and small ground. Hilarious moment: Tabrez Khan making no attempt to catch a high one off his own bowling. The ball was in the sun (so he says), as he shut his eyes and crouched down in the middle of the pitch with his hands protecting his head; the ball landed just in front of him!

After the usual sumptuous tea, the season’s two leading run scorers, Neeraj and Darren, opened the innings in a head to head dash for the batting trophy. A solid fifty stand in 12 overs with each batsman on 25 underlined the competitive spirit. Then a mortified Neeraj was ‘triggered’ by umpire Brian Wilson leaving Darren with 46 more to get. Ledger and Tabrez did not stay at the wicket long, and Rohan provided support with an elegant 22 before being bowled by the indefatigable Colonel Roger Foulds. Darren stroked his way serenely on. Neeraj could barely look (“It doesn’t really matter to me” says he sitting on a bench in the distance biting his fingernails!). But Darren’s challenge ended 18 runs short when he was comprehensively bowled by Benfield for 52. Neeraj was all smiles again!

The game was as good as won by then with 40 to get in 11 overs. But only 5 were needed. An astonishing innings was launched by Ashvin Bhatia in the manner of a Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He straight hit 4 sixes and 2 fours in his unbeaten 41 in 21 balls as Kensington Cricket Club finished its season in majesty.

Match Report On a cloudy late September day on the Barnes ground, an under-strength Nomads team elected to bat (they only had 7 players at the time). None of the Nomads batsmen were able to cope with the tight KCC bowling and slow wicket so the runs came at a snail’s pace. All of the bowlers were amongst the wickets with Elias the pick of them with 2/31 off 16 overs. As the innings was drawing to a close and a declaration became imminent (or so we thought) the KCC fieldsmen were alarmed by the lack of urgency on the part of the Nomads batsmen. Michael Blumberg in particular seemed intent on batting all day even though the late summer sun was already sinking. Eventually Michael was given out LBW (a mercy killing possibly) to end their innings after 54.2 uneventful overs. Only Charlton Lamb was able to land some late blows to top score with 28* and help Nomads to 151.

Given only 29 overs (compared with 54) to chase the total KCC began disastrously losing 3 wickets for just 22. Nomads would take no more wickets though as Ledger (68* off 60 balls) and Keleher (64 off 57) knocked off the runs with a minimum of fuss. A fitting result for a very one-sided affair.

Match Report This 40 over game was full of thrills – and a vital spill – and went right down to the wire, with some farce thrown in for good measure. KCC managed just 193, which looked a bit below par. Saurav Sen made 48, Ledger 42, Unmish 35 and Nayar 26, but no one went on to play the match-winning innings. Some mirth was provided when an unimpressed Rohan, batting with a runner, was run out while leaning on his bat at square leg. He and David Behar were playing with injuries, so KCC were struggling in the field, but a good team bowling effort saw Epsom reduced to 162 for 7, with overs running out, Nayar taking 3 wickets and also impaling himself on a stump attempting a catch. Some games have a defining moment, and, as September gloom descended, Ledger advised Nayar to zip in a flat one. Neeraj promptly tossed up the wrong-un which was dispatched into the murk, flat and hard towards Tabrez at deep mid wicket. Tabrez flung himself full-length like a salmon and seemed to have clung on to the catch of the summer – surely the match-clincher. Yet, as he rose from the ground with his team-mates running to mob him, the ball appeared to be trickling behind him, just over the rope, and our hero could just about be seen meekly signalling 4. Heads dropped and KCC lost by 3 wickets in the last over, skipper Secchi making a crucial 34 not out for Epsom.

Match Report 40 over a side game. KCC lose thriller in the dark. Chasing 214 -we fell just short.

Following last year's embarrassment when the Alleyn Skipper batted on well past bedtime, Alleyn Skipper sportingly offered a 40 over game. Nayar put them in the hope of extracting early moisture in the track.

Cieuferteli chanced his arm and flayed the bowling with help from several dropped catches. Notably ball number two of his innings, when he was on nought. At one point the Alleyn score looked like being out of control but the Spin Twins of Behar and Nayar pulled the game back and restricted Alleyn to a manageable 212. The Behar brothers opened the reply and John behar was in belligerent mood. David on the other hand, was dropped no less than 5 times. A solid start but Kensington failed to capitalise with John, David, James and Rohan going in quick succession. Darren and Neeraj staged a fight back and just when we were on the brink, Neeraj repeated his head in the air slog and was caught out. Darren's departure left KCC needing 10 off the last over and when Corbett smashed the first ball for four, all was possible. Alas, Chetan could not get the three required off the last ball and was bowled. Always a good laugh in the bar with Kato and gang.

Match Report On a rain affected day, it was amazing to be playing at all. Merrow being the wonderful hosts they are rolled out the Colts pitch that looked least affected by the weather. Kensington batted first with Nayar and Hatfield sharing an 89 run stand, Brett going on to a very well made 58. The greatest excitement came when Chris Hall - loaned to us by Merrow was adjudged LBW first ball. Ledger and debutant Reinecker then smashed some very quick runs to take the score to respectability.

It appeared to be heading to a close finish when Chris Hall took 3 quick wickets to inflict some pay back on his team mates, but alas, Hurst, Bowles and Giddings had done the damage and Merrow cruised home …AGAIN!

A very social and enjoyable fixture as always and considering that KCC have never beaten Merrow, the enjoyment for the hosts gets better and better. 2006 - we come again!!!

Match Report This late season conference fixture brought Banstead to KCC’s ‘home’ ground in Dulwich. Batting first, KCC kept a steady run rate throughout the innings with Tim Keleher (65), Dazzler (63) and J Keleher (49 off 33 balls) all getting amongst the runs. Some late hitting from Gore (the mighty) including an enormous straight six (his last scoring shot before he turned sixty) helped KCC to a generous declaration of 234/6 off 40 overs.

With 43 overs to chase the runs Banstead’s Kiwi import Morley began brightly, punishing anything loose. Some excellent fielding and tight bowling eventually took their toll as he was dismissed for a well made 67. It seemed a KCC victory or draw were the only two outcomes before Reeves, after a watchful start, began to open his shoulders. Needing only 6 an over for the last 10 overs with wickets in hand all of a sudden it was KCC on the back foot. Enter Johnny Behar to save the day. After dismissing the dangerous Reeves (71) he almost single-handedly won the game for KCC finishing with the amazing figures of 4/19 off 11 overs. Needing only 1 wicket Behar and Nayar (2/29) were unable to remove the stubborn last pair.

Match Report A beautiful sunny afternoon greeted those of the KCC players and supporters who managed to turn up on time for the start of this game. Things got so bad that when Jason lost the toss and was asked to field, Benjamin Moores and Stefanos Nayar were required to make their debut for the club aged 9 and 6 respectively. Needless to say both were more agile and capable than the usual crop of fielders, who finally turned up about 45 minutes later. No need to name names, but shall be done anyway - Chris and Rohan! After a steady start by Leigh, KCC started to make inroads and had the home side at 73 for 5 at one stage. Rangam Mitra, making a rare bowling appearance, found the track to his liking once again (the scene of his six wicket triumph two years ago) and finished with 3/32. Most of the Leigh batsmen made a start but could not kick on and Nick Adams was the highest scorer with 32 not out from a total of 162.

The KCC innings got off to a shaky start with Neeraj Nayar out for a second ball duck but the famous KCC middle order were not found wanting, for a change, and Chris Ledger and Rohan Ghosh helped to make up for their time-keeping and map reading deficiencies with the two highest knocks of the day. Sharp and Smith were the pick of the Leigh bowlers with Smith contributing 3/24 and Sharp bowling a tireless 15.4 overs for figures of 3/60. As usual Ledger had the last word smacking a six to win the game for KCC with just two balls to spare. Leigh’s hospitality was splendid and the setting (with playground next to the ground) made the day a pleasant one for quite a few players who had brought their children.

Match Report KCC were inserted by Hawley on a dampish pitch, in this now traditional 50 over charity match in aid of Cancer Research. After a slow start, and the fall of a couple of quick wickets, KCC’s fortunes revived when Rohan Ghosh and San Gore, who’d put on a century stand the weekend before, very nearly repeated the feat again in another excellent partnership. At lunch, after 30 overs, the score was 129/3, and a solid foundation had been laid. After lunch, Rohan continued to score freely, ably accompanied at the other end by Neeraj Nayar, allowing KCC to post a competitive total of 248.

Hawley began their innings brightly, as David Scott and Craig Adams put on 64, before David was smartly caught at the wicket by San off Neeraj. Danger man Craig then struck some thunderous blows before KCC snatched his prize wicket, when he was well caught by John Behar going for his 50 and yet another boundary. Thereafter, wickets fell at regular intervals, with particularly find spells from Elias, Neeraj and Matthew. At 182/9, with only 6 overs left, around 11 an over needed for victory, and just one wicket left to take, skipper Chris Ledger, getting into the spirit of the charity fixture, threw the ball to speedster Farrukh Hasan, who’d been injured earlier, to try out his entirely unknown spinning skills. His two overs went for 29 runs! Were KCC, amazingly, going to throw the game away? Farrukh, unfazed, bowled the last man out, and victory was ours. Another highly enjoyable game at Hawley, and plenty of money raised for charity.

Match Report A high scoring draw on a placid pitch did the batting averages a power of good. But Uxbridge started shakily as Elias, Farrukh and Chetan bowled an excellent line. Brett Hatfield picked up a wicket from his first ball for the club, Rohan taking a low diving catch at cover. After 26 overs the score was 106/6 and Kensington were on top. However, Fowler dug in resolutely and with a rampant Wood, who smote the ball mightily, put on 94 before being stumped by Jason off Rangam. Perez and Wood then took the game away and raced to the declaration, the last 3 overs going for 45.

Neeraj and Brett put on a century opening stand in only 20 overs before they were separated. But with just 16 overs remaining the task looked daunting, despite the Uxbridge bowlers appearing to have given up all hope of taking wickets. Brett, Dazzler, Rohan, Brendan and Jason made a valiant attempt to reach the target in the failing light, but we fell short by 17 runs.

Match Report Jason won the toss, a rarity, and rarer still, decided to bat first, and not for the usual reason of not having enough players at his disposal by the start time. Most of the batsmen made a contribution and KCC chugged along nicely with a run rate at a little over 5 an over. The pick of the batsmen on a dry pitch were opener Rohan Ghosh with 59 from 55 balls, Matt Marshall (51 from 60 balls) and Saurav Sen with a sumptuous 73 not out in 75 balls. Evans caused the most problems for the batsmen and his two wickets for 38 were a well-deserved return, both batsmen caught (one sensationally) by Sweetman, more of whom later. Hutchinson chimed in with 3/51 at the end of the innings and KCC were satisfied with their total of 253 in 45 overs.

KCC started brightly in the field and the opening bowlers, Chetan and Elias soon had Ascot at 37/4. Then the aforementioned Sweetman came to the crease in the 7th over and by the time he was bowled by Saurav 25 overs later he had amassed a mammoth 134. To put the innings into context the next highest scorer for Ascot made 17 not out, in itself a valuable contribution which enabled Ascot to secure the draw that earlier in the innings had seemed most unlikely. The KCC bowlers, notably Chetan Singh with 3/32, Elias Hussain 2/29 and Matthew Marshall 2/16 were outstanding on a day when their irresistible force met an immovable object named Sweetman.

Match Report After winning the toss, and electing to bat first in this 40 over match, captain Chris Ledger perished early, but Rohan Ghosh and San Gore then piled on the runs, both scoring half centuries in a 112 run stand. In the final overs, David Behar and new boy Ashvin Bhatia enjoyed themselves, making merry in run-a-ball cameos that saw KCC advance to a respectable, but catchable total of 229.

Elthorne started well, putting on 61 for the first wicket in the first 15 overs. After the fall of two quick wickets, skipper Poustie and Marsden continued the chase, but tight bowling by Neeraj Nayar and guest Arjun Singh restricted the flow of runs. The turning point came with 5 overs to go, and 42 required to win, when Chris Ledger, provoking memories of his youthful fielding exploits, brilliantly ran out Poustie. Next ball, Marsden was bowled neck and crop by Arjun Singh, and with him went Elthorne’s hopes of victory. A solid win for KCC.

Match Report An overcast day and some abnormal early arrivals meant that the KCC team for Dunsfold was both cold on the outside and perhaps a little too warm on the inside, thanks to the lovely local pub across from the ground which served as our shelter while we awaited the official start time. The team had three debutants, Rahul Talwar, Amit Gupta and Karan Khanna, the last whose dogged 6 not out from 19 balls helped salvage an undeserved draw for KCC. Jason won the toss and put Dunsfold in to bat. It soon became apparent that our bowling was not to be our strength, which was somewhat unsettling for the skipper who was quite aware that our batting certainly would not be! Having removed both openers with the score at 46 for 2, we were then set upon by Moorby who made 111 not out (apparently his maiden hundred but we aren’t buying that having seen the strokes that got him there!). He was ably supported by James Beckett in a 160 run stand, enabling Dunsfold to reach 210 for 3 in 42 overs. KCC used 7 bowlers, none to much effect, though Shray Amar did bowl well for his 1/14 off seven overs.

KCC promptly lost their openers (San Gore a 16 ball duck and Shray Amar run out for 4). David Rees and Ashvin Bhatia then put up some resistance with Ashvin making a stylish 41 from 48 balls. Still, we lost wickets at a steady rate and despite Jason contributing some runs for a change (38 from 51 balls…positively pedestrian by the hacker’s usual standard) we were staring at an ugly defeat. Instead, we settled for an ugly draw with some fine resistance from the veteran cool head of David Gray. But when he foolishly ran himself out with 5 overs left of the match, it was left to guest Karan Khanna and Rangam to salvage the draw. We retired happily with our gracious hosts to the Sun Inn, where the whole saga had begun.

Match Report We were lucky to get this game in between vicious mid-August storms on an already wet wicket, but the 40 over contest ran its course. Ledger inserted Henley and they somewhat lost their way after a fine start. Barbar smashed 72, but once he was out the run-rate dropped, with lateral movement for all the seamers. Then John Behar bowled the key spell, taking 1-18 from his complement of 8, achieving alarming grip on this old-fashioned sticky dog. Satin (43) and Gould (32) rallied, but Kensington bowled well as a unit and 206 looked 30 or 40 short with such a short boundary on one side.

So it proved to be, as Hasan Farooq and Jai Singh put on 122 for the first wicket, despite their habitual eccentric running between the wickets, with a repertoire of calling that rips up the MCC coaching manual. Barbar bowled well for 2-25 from his 8, but Ledger put the game beyond doubt with a typically brutal 46 from 36 balls and KCC won the game comfortably with 5 overs to spare.

Match Report Jefferson won the toss and batted first, confident in a lovely strip and a strong batting line up. However, he hadn’t reckoned on Bowden running himself out, Nayar playing all round a straight one and Marshall chipping one to gully. 28 for 3. The collapse was compounded by KCC umpires fingering their own – Rohan Ghosh (26) and John Behar triggered out – and 126 was the sum of it on a 280 run pitch. Ledger top scored with 32. Newman bowled a good spell with the new ball and P Drake and T Drake took 3 apiece. There was still a game on, however, and KCC bowled well. 29 of the 43 overs and 5 of the wickets came from the spinners Behar and Nayar, taking East Horsley well into the final 20 with 7 wickets down. P Brown made a vital 33 at the top of the order. A victory was nearly salvaged from the jaws of defeat, but in the end the KCC batsmen had to hang their heads.

Match Report A magnificent, unbeaten first-wicket stand by David Behar and Brett Hatfield, filled with attacking strokes, led us to an overwhelming victory by 10 wickets, only the third such margin in KCC history.

Frensham had begun well with opening bat Farncombe blasting a blistering fifty in next to no time. When he was second out, bowled by Elias, he had contributed 55 of the 68 runs on the board. Then suddenly, a mid-order collapse – 4 wickets fell for the addition of only 2 runs with Elias and Saurav sharing the spoils. One of the victims was off a stunning catch at point by KCC Vice-President Ian Mclean who had kindly crossed over from his home team to fill a KCC shortage. Stubbs and Turtle retrieved the situation somewhat as San eased the pressure. But Tabrez, who had taken stick earlier, returned to the attack and ended further resistance by clean bowling the next three, and catching the last man off David Gray’s only over. Frensham finished on 170 and an early tea was taken.

Whatever was in the tea and cakes, they had an inspiring effect on the KCC opening batsmen. In a hugely entertaining partnership Brett and David threw caution to the winds as they raced neck and neck to their fifties. They stroked the ball effortlessly, ran quickly between the wickets, and gave the bowlers the charge at every opportunity. The scores were level after only 32 overs (with another 14 to go) and Brett finished it off with a towering six. The funniest part of all this was next man ‘Maharaja’ Jai Singh sitting all this time with his pads on! So rare is it that No.3 doesn’t bat for Kensington that his plea of “I want to be an opener” was met with little sympathy and much amusement.

Match Report Batting first in ideal conditions KCC were unable to capitalise, slumping to 69/4 with only captain Keleher (45 of 38 balls) able to take initial advantage. Things changed however when Ghosh was joined by Marshall and the pair began to plunder the attack, putting on 72 before Rohan was out for a steady 49. Ledger (46* off 31 balls) joined Marshall (69 off 46) and the assault continued as they took KCC to a very competitive total of 262/7 off their 40 overs.

But KCC’s optimism was to be quashed by the blade of Hyron Shallow as he immediately set about smashing the bowling all around the park. No bowler was spared the onslaught as he and Lee Slater took Marlow to 197 off 21 brutal overs before he was dismissed for a punishing 129 that included 16 fours and 7 sixes. A late rally brought some respectability back for KCC but Marlow won this one 3 wickets down with 7 overs to spare.

Match Report The heavy downpour the previous day which had put paid to our Checkendon fixture also affected the start of this all-day, mid-week game with Merrow. With no protective covers on hand the pitch was left to dry in the morning. It was eventually decided that play should begin after lunch (very boozy). The juniors’ pitch on the edge of the square was used for a 35 over slog – after all, it was a cricket week and there needed to be some action! San elected to bat first and it was immediately recognised as a duff decision. The ball rarely rose above ankle height and 6 players were bowled in the dugout. Only Ledger, with 4 sixes and 6 fours, and Neeraj were able to combat the conditions.

When Merrow batted after tea the wicket had dried out considerably and the target of 165 never looked imposing. The many full-tosses offered were comfortably despatched to the boundary. Far too late did it dawn on our bowlers that the junior’s pitch was only twenty yards long!

Match Report Jai Singh finally scored his maiden century for KCC in a strong batting performance. He and Unmish put on 148 for the 3rd wicket as Kensington looked to bat the home side out of the game after winning the toss. Marshall arguably batted on a few too many overs and the Household skipper will have regretted accepting his offer of pushing back the final 20 overs by 15 minutes to make up for it.

When Jefferson bowled opener Goddard with his 3rd ball for a duck the home side dropped anchor and set about grafting for the draw. F-man and Jefferson gave nothing away while Bray and Stevenson ate up the overs. The classic away-swing of club president Sunil Amar broke the deadlock, however, and KCC sensed a chance. With 14 overs left Marshall brought himself on and kept it straight enough to nick 4 of the 6 wickets wanted for victory. Elias took another and F-man was brought back to take the final wicket in the last over. It was a great finish to a game punctuated by reports from a test match that was apparently going on elsewhere.

Match Report The captain’s dilemma of how to explain to the team he wanted to field first when it was 30C was overcome by the usual method, lying! The two skippers made all the right noises and flipped a coin out in the middle for all to see but had already agreed that Pelicans should bat first (for the record Jason actually ended up winning the false toss!). In order to further placate the team (or at least Farrukh Hasan) Jason gave him the slope to run down and he promptly induced an edge second ball, which was promptly missed by Jason behind the stumps (not alert enough to even get a glove on it!). This was to be the start of many edges off Farrukh which either went through, under or over the slip cordon and keeper. He was not amused! The breakthrough came early however when Ramesh Mantha, gamely taking on the upslope no one wanted, had Nichols caught at mid-on off a leading edge. Farrukh finally realised he would need to bypass the slips if he wished to take a wicket and duly aimed at the stumps to pick up three. Both opening bowlers kept up the pressure and wickets fell at a steady rate. Billy Bowry, here for his one and only game for the Club this year before flying off to Africa to do good deeds in educating children on HIV, replaced Ramesh and instantly got some good bounce and two wickets for his endeavours. Chetan Singh down the slope kicked in with two of his own (one being a great catch at first slip from Boe) and when new man Marius Verwoerd came on to bowl some distinctly Blumbergesque off-spin he was immediately rewarded with two wickets in two balls, but sadly not a hat trick. Although the batsmen may have felt that they had not done themselves justice, the final Pelicans total of 128 all out was very much down to good bowling with all outfield catches being taken.

The KCC innings started 35 minutes before tea and, after travelling halfway around the globe, Ravi Mantha, was out for a duck in the second over, miscuing a hook from a full toss that had suspicions of a no ball about it. In came our intrepid African missionary and he and Boe both batted pugnaciously and with great control put on a century stand to steer us within sight of victory. Boe eventually fell for 38 (what again!!), but a quick 15 from Brett Hatfield, saw us home, Billy remaining undefeated with a solid 59. As usual our hosts were superb and the BBQ afterwards at the Nag’s Head was the scene of much joking and banter between both teams.

Match Report KCC batted first and lost Skipper Nayar in the very first over trying to slash outside off. Bowden fell (caught hooking!) soon after (17/2). It needed the class acts of Tim Keleher and Unmish to deliver and so they did. A sublime maiden hundred for the club by Tim and Unmish racked up 47. KCC were not helped by as many as 4 scores of ZERO (Neeraj, Darren, San, Saurav!!), but swift knocks by Marshall and John Behar racked up a respectable 238 amid some very good bowling from John Ormand and Manoj.

KCC looked in control during the Deutsche reply. Bez cruising to 68 but the run rate was mounting. Anshu knocked a great 39 in support but in came Manoj Shah and smashed a match winning 55 to win it for the Bankers with 10 balls to spare. Another good win for Deutsche but we will give it a go again next year. Manoj might be away, who knows!

Match Report “Will Waqar Siraj get his century” was the cry. Last year against the same opposition Waqar was on 98 when Sunil Amar declared the innings not knowing his score. Waqar probably will never forget or ever forgive Sunil…..would you?

The setting was great, Jesus College had got their new pavilion, state of the art changing rooms, magnificent tea as usual served by waiters in elegant uniforms. Waqar was there to impress but he didn’t want to open. Sunil won the toss and chose to bat. San Gore and David Behar got the innings off to a good start but it was Jai Singh who impressed with a cultured 44. Jai hadn’t played much (being a new dad opportunities to play cricket were restricted due to numerous nappy changes), so it was good for him to spend time in the middle; he was stumped when going for a 6 to get his 50. Waqar received a thunderous ovation after he got his 2 runs, thus morally his 100* against Jesus College. The applause, however, was too much to handle for Waqar who was out tamely a few balls later. David Gray making a rare appearance for KCC played doggedly for his 42* and Doug Keay, who all the while had been champing at the bit to bat, smashed 3 fours in 5 balls at the end to put up a respectable total.

Doug Keay and Vivek Rattan opened the bowling attack and Dougie’s left-arm swing was virtually unplayable as he took 4 wickets for 28 runs in 11 overs. Navneet Bali’s son Kabir in his first full game for KCC bowled extremely well taking 1/18 in 7 overs. Kabir’s whole family was there to witness the occasion. Sunil cleaned up the tail with 2/23 to complete a victory with 9 overs to spare. Only skipper Smith and tail-ender Bunning offered any resistance.

Match Report The captains settled on a straight 50 overs a side match, Kensington won the toss and elected to bat. Visiting Indian youth player Srivastava opened up with David Behar and unleashed a series of powerful cuts in making 30. Only Unmish could cope with the tight bowling and seaming pitch after that and Kensington’s middle order all fell cheaply while he compiled a patient 59. The tailed wagged a little, John Behar getting off the mark with a big straight six, but KCC finished up 162 all out with 6 overs left unused.

Allen-Turner and Hill put on 59 for the first Windsor wicket despite Farrukh Hasan (the F-Man) and KCC skipper Marshall moving the new ball extravagantly. Then Corbett Chellew, who hadn’t fancied opening, took 2 in 2 balls in his first and 2 more in his fifth over to change completely the tone of the game. M Lazarczuk and Elliot tried to settle the innings but the young lower order couldn’t carry the fight against the off-spin of John Behar and Saurav Sen; the 162 target always looked out of reach, and so it proved.

A few of the Parkmen regulars were gladly missed on the field but returned from watching the Aussies in time to top up their beer levels with us on a fine evening.

Match Report Kensington won the toss and decided to bat first. A very tidy opening burst by Hoolahan and Hancock saw KCC openers David Behar and Skipper Nayar put on 74 for the first wicket at a slow pace. Anshu Jain then scored a very cultured 39 before David and Ashvin Bhatia led a late charge. Kensington’s 187 did not appear to be threatened when the Bank were reduced to 102 for 8. However, this game turned into a nail-biter when Piper thumped 60 and a fabulous 33 and 32 respectively by Hoolahan and Haldans took the game to the wire. Nayar finally dismissed Hoolahan and the game swung back to KCC.

A terrific bar ambience once again at the bank and in true social spirit we all raised a glass to Navneet Bali who made a successful comeback to the very ground where he sadly had a horrific accident the previous year. Look forward to the next Bank fixture.

Match Report This is becoming increasingly embarrassing – yet another year when the cream of Kensington batting is rolled over by the highly talented and well-coached youngsters of Bishop’s Stortford! This is not to say that we don’t enjoy this wonderful fixture always played in such excellent humour. Indeed, it is quite fun, in a perverse sort of way, to have our frailties exposed as the youth of today show how the game should be played.

It was not however, all Bishop’s Stortford’s way. Farrukh Hasan bagged two early wickets to reduce the home side to 13/2 and Matt trapped Lewin lbw for 9 with the score on 58. Thereafter, it was all one way. Lindop and Eldred presented broad bats in a breezy partnership of 82. Lindop went on to score an effortless unbeaten century enabling Graeme Smith to declare on a very sporting (and chaseable) total.

‘Ha!’ as it turned out. Almost before San had completed the batting order Dazzer, Jamie and Unmish were back in the hutch, all victims of Barrett – 13/3 saw San scrambling to the middle. Neeraj and San poked around for 10 overs in the face of accurate seam bowling from Williams and nagging spin from Robertson and wondered from where the next run could come. Losing patience, Neeraj holed out at mid-on. Matt and San soldiered on seeing off Williams (12-5-16-1), but both batsmen fell with the score on 59. With 4 wickets left and 140 runs to get in 16 overs, the order was tall for the tailenders. In the event, seven overs were all that were needed by Bishop’s Stortford to dismiss us for 85 and complete a comprehensive victory. Cricket can be a truly humbling experience!

Match Report A slightly lightweight looking KCC side won the toss and chose to bowl (who picks the captains these days?). There was a bizarre occurrence in the opening over when the umpire, having given opener Styles out caught behind off Jon Pickles, then reversed his decision. An injury to Jon Behar prevented him bowling more than four overs and the two Burdens helped themselves off a weakened attack. Acorns finished at 238 off 45 overs, which would have been more were it not for the creditable efforts of KCC’s two opening bowlers, Jon Pickles (1 for 43 off 14 overs) and Chetan Singh (1 for 44 off 11).

David Behar and James Pickles (who unknown to him had broken a finger in catching Burden off his own bowling) got KCC’s reply off to a quick start and at 86 for 2 off 15 overs, with James and Behar senior scoring freely, things were looking good. But the young Trygg got them both, taking a brilliant one-handed catch in the covers to get rid of Pickles and having Behar caught behind. Moores shamelessly pummelled a 14-year old for four boundaries in an over but KCC’s lack of batting depth quickly made the run chase impossible. Shray Amar and Chetan solidly batted out the last 10 overs to secure a draw.

Match Report The day was beautifully sunny, pleasantly breezy, and clear, the far windmill down the valley to Reigate was clearly visible from the raised vantage point of this wonderful ground (amazingly they are struggling with membership numbers).

We won the toss and Nayar and Bowden opened on a flat, benign track. Bowden was bowled early for 4 off a high full-toss that strayed straight! Gore joined Nayar and together they put on a steady 124. Nayar chipped and nudged, and huffed and puffed his way onward to what eventually became a highly creditable 70, continuing in his vein of consistent batting performances this season. On his dismissal Marshall arrived at the crease and, with enormous grace and composure, hit a lofted drive straight down the throat of mid-off for a duck. Brendan Ryan took up the cause and managed a sensible 5 runs before falling to Elliot. Moores then took the wavering game by the scruff of the neck and smashed a hard-hitting 38 in 36 balls, his highest score to date, including a fine six through mid-wicket off the back foot. He too fell to Elliot, a scorching return catch which any sensible bowler would have avoided. Looking for quick runs at the end, Gore was bowled by Elliot after making a solid 66. Behar and Hussain finished the innings with not outs and some solid hits to add a further 20 bringing the total to 223. Perhaps too much? Yes, as it turned out our bowling was too tight for North Holmwood to get out of the blocks and attack our score, and the game turned attritional. However, some good catches got us 8 wickets with 6 overs to go, some close calls gave us hope but ultimately the match was drawn.

We were entertained by crows seeing off a buzzard throughout, and, continuing the animal theme we then drank Cobra’s. Thank you Karan Bilimoria.

Match Report On a beautiful summer’s day Marlow Park made the obvious choice and elected to bat on the traditional batsmen-friendly wicket. But some tight bowling from KCC restricted the home side and, although not many wickets were taken, kept the batsmen in check. All the bowlers contributed with Jefferson (3/61 off 15) and Amar (2/45) the pick of the bowlers. Only Neil Weston (98) was able to put the bowling away helping Marlow to 233/6 off 46 overs.

This total was never enough against a powerful KCC batting line up. The target was reached for the loss of only 1 wicket with 7.5 overs to spare. Dazzler, needing 4 to reach his maiden KCC century with the scores tied, smashed the ball for yet another boundary as he and Jamie added an unbroken 181.

Match Report Neither Captain was looking forward to explaining to his team that they were going to field for the next three hours in 30 degree plus heat on a frying pan of a ground, so the toss was an important one to win, which to great relief, Jason Moores for KCC did. To hoots of derision (toward their captain) coming from the opposition dressing room, KCC duly sent out Pahari and David Behar to bat (as we only had seven players at the ground at the time it was lucky they were all batsmen!) on a very dusty wicket which took a great deal of turn and produced the odd interesting ball from a good length. Both openers fell cheaply but an 87 run partnership between Gore and Ravi Mantha and some lusty blows by Jason helped steered Kensington towards a respectable total. We would have set a more challenging target if we hadn’t lost a flurry of wickets at the end (five for only 19 runs) in a misguided attempt to ‘slog’ when we still had seven or so overs to go!

A fine opening spell of bowling from Elias and Siraj had the opposition in trouble at 54/4, but Garry Foreman and his blistering knock of 75 not out, supported by Nick Williams and Dan Fenton took the game away from KCC. Some KCC fielders were more than happy to point the ball in the direction of the boundary rather than lose a hand in trying to stop it! Olinda duly made the target for the loss of five wickets with two overs to spare, and Foreman’s off-spin return of 4/24 meant it was a no-brainer for the man of the match award. Highlights for KCC were the Mantha family double team with fine batting from Ravi and a stunning catch at second slip from Ramesh. A well-earned beer on a lovely evening had Gore waxing lyrical about Constable skylines (something about how he would have captured the evening light - personally I think San had captured too much afternoon sun!) and ended with a whip round so Tabrez could buy a map!

Match Report After electing to bat KCC got off to a slow start before Tim Keleher (25) and Nayar put on 50 for the 2nd wicket. When Aussie star Dazzler (Darren Bowden) joined Nayar KCC looked to get on top. The pair began to punish the previously economical Richmond attack putting on 113 before Dazzler was out for an excellent 78. Nayar continued his good early season form with 84* as KCC declared on 216/6.

Richmond began the chase well with Way and Cole punishing the KCC bowling. The introduction of Hassan Farooq altered the complexion of the game, however. Coming on second change in the 16th over when Richmond were on 66/1, he began to make the ball talk, bamboozling the batsmen with his ‘busy’ bowling action. Extracting prodigious swing both ways Farooq was able to remove the dangerous pair, and expose Richmond’s soft under-belly. Batsmen came and went as Farooq skittled the opposition with his extravagant banana balls, crushing them from 93/1 to 127 all out. Man of the match Farooq finished with the season’s best figures of 7/24 off 8.5 overs, and all in front of his Dad too!

Match Report KCC inserted the hosts and boy did we chase some leather! Grinsdale crafted an unbeaten 100 and Dewey smashed a brutal 92. The bowling figures were ugly and inspired an email outburst about wicket-keeper allocation from Farrukh Hasan the next week. (It was 0 for 70 off 10 for the big man.) Janak Nabar returned a creditable 3 for 40 on debut and Tabrez Khan took the only other wicket to fall. Could ten-man KCC chase down 239? Well, nearly – thanks to a fantastic maiden ton from Saurav Sen, who reached three figures in 84 balls and set up the possible win, after a century 2nd wicket stand with Pahari (38). However, the middle order blew it, six wickets falling to Dewey, and only a lusty 18 from Farrukh and a gargantuan six from Tabrez brought credit. KCC went all the way for the win, but lost by 31 runs.

Match Report As Old Merchant Taylors could not raise a team we found through the Conference this Kentish village side who play on a small, charming ground ringed with a white fence. Matt Marshall opened the innings with Boe Pahari and smashed a swift fifty in 60 balls. Boe provided solid support in a stand of 90. Four wickets then tumbled including those of Dazzer and Tabrez. and suddenly the momentum was lost. San and guest Jason Marien repaired the damage but both were out attempting the long handle. At 171/6 with the fixed tea interval looming enough runs were not on the board. Saurav Sen and Hasan Farooq changed all that in 14 balls plundering 43 runs including 5 sixes.

Blindley Heath started well with opener Woods dominating the bowling. It transpired that he was an Aussie grade player who happened to be on holiday in England for three weeks and fancied a game of cricket! He hit the ball hard and cleanly, and raced to a well-deserved hundred. Woods was fourth out to a wonderful catch by Dazzer at deep mid-off. Thereafter, it was a question of working through the tail, but Chris Garland stayed firm at the end to secure a draw. The pick of the KCC bowlers were Elias who was unable to scalp his fifth wicket, and Saurav who flighted his off-breaks impeccably.

Match Report Neeraj lost the toss, KCC were inserted, and rapidly found themselves in the mire at 36 for 5, exposed by good bowling from Vekitat and Douglas. The collapse demanded greater application from the remaining batsmen, but needless to say more trigger-happy shot-making saw KCC plunge further to 68 for 8 and the prospect of a beer match loomed large. (Cynics might suggest that was the aim all along, judging by the shot selection of the KCC top five). But Mark Jefferson joined James Pickles, coming in at No.6, and together they added 64 for the ninth wicket to give some respectability to the score. James showed the virtues of playing straight and reached his third 50 for the club before Mark fell to Douglas. An entertaining stand of 32 by the Pickles brothers then followed before a vast heave from Jon resulted in a top edge spiralling all of six feet directly upwards, to be pouched by the wicketkeeper.

Weekenders got off to something of a flyer and despite steady bowling from Pickles senior, Jamie and Neeraj, Weekenders breezed home, with Johnstone thumping an assertive unbeaten 67.

Match Report A comfortable win, made possible by an electrifying opening quick bowling performance from Matt Marshall who took 5 wickets in a ten over spell that reduced Warborough to 40/6. Although Richard Tilley led a spirited recovery the fate of the game was never in doubt. Hassan Farooq and Saurav Sen bowled tidily and Matt finished off the innings on his return.

Skipper Keleher was not amused to have to come in and be dismissed second ball. Darren it was who saw us home with a delightful unbeaten 81, his first score over fifty for the Club, with a promise of many more to come.

Match Report Despite the fact that KCC ended up losing the game, this was a hugely enjoyable game of cricket. Fortunes fluctuated wildly throughout the day: in quickfire succession we at first seemed odds on to lose, then sure to win, then certain to lose, before finally, on the brink of a remarkable victory plucked from the jaws of defeat, we somehow contrived to lose the match after all. Breathless stuff… After winning the toss, and batting first, Barnes were initially tied down by an excellent spell of incisive opening bowling by Jon Pickles and Hassan Farooq, but once opener Baehofen had seen off the threat of the new ball, he began to cut loose, and at 137 for 1 after 27 overs, with nine wickets in hand, Barnes seemed set fair to power on to a match-winning first innings total of 250 or so. Cometh the hour, cometh KCC’s spinners, Nayar and James Pickles, who turned the tables completely, taking a succession of wickets and slowing the run rate with their flight and guile, to keep Barnes down to a below par total of 197.

KCC’s reply got off to an assured start. With Gore and Bowden seemingly well in control, at 110 for 1 after 24 overs, with nine wickets still in hand, and plenty of good batsmen to come, KCC’s players felt very confident of being able to knock off the required run rate of just over 5 an over. Cue an astonishing middle-order collapse, monumental even by KCC’s infamous standards. After Gore and Bowden were dismissed within a few balls of each other, five further wickets fell for the addition of just six runs! It would be good to relate that this collapse was caused by a demon spell of Barnes bowling, but in fact two of the wickets fell to madcap mix-up run outs, others to new batsmen trying to get off the mark with a big heave-ho. Suddenly, at 137 for 8, KCC seemed certain to lose. For a while Farooq and James Pickles kept the flag flying, but when Farooq fell to yet another mix-up run out, with 29 runs still needed in 3 overs with just one wicket to fall, KCC were reconciled to ignominious defeat. Cometh the hour, cometh the Pickles brothers: Jon, at number 11, smashed 14 off the next over, and suddenly an outrageous victory seemed on the cards. Cue the perfect denouement to an extraordinary match, a fourth run out. Sneaking in a seemingly safe fourth run from a shot that pulled up just short of the long boundary, Jon was run out by a relay throw topped off by a brilliant direct hit of the stumps. KCC lost, cricket won…

Match Report Sunil Amar, David Behar, Tabrez Khan and Chetan Singh were late getting to the ground; in fact they were lucky to even be there in one piece as their car’s tyre had a blow up at 70 mph on the M3. But they managed to survive and fortunately they had a spare tyre and made it just before the game got underway.

It was a lovely sunny day and a perfect batting wicket. Odiham chose to bat first. Mark Johnson and Elias opened the bowling attack and very soon discovered that they had no wicketkeeper as all three of them had been selected to play for the other KCC game at Barnes! As more catches were dropped Johnson who is football goal keeper decided to keep. Farrukh took over from Johnson and he and Elias played havoc with the batsmen except for the great Pascoe who had scored a terrific hundred against us the previous year. This year, he continued in the same vein, lofting the bowlers for some big sixes and a few 4’s but fortunately he was well caught by Unmish before he got another ton. Pascoe’s dominance was such that the rest of the Odiham batsmen provided little support, their No.11 bat being the second highest scorer at 14.

David Behar (24) and Jefferson (10) got KCC to a good start. Ravi Mantha (still based in the USA stopped over during meetings in Europe) pitched in with a good 18. But it was Unmish (67) with Brendan Ryan (19) who finished the innings in a hurry. Unmish played some vintage cricket with 2 sixes and 10 fours, scoring his 50 in only 32 balls. The only wickets to fall were those of openers Gore (38) and Mantha (35) and the third wicket pair flayed the bowling, David Behar making 68 off 49 balls and Saurav Sen 40 off 32. Jefferson declared after just 34 overs on 199-2. The 200 was never on for Mynthurst, but nor were the 10 wickets for Kensington, and the local donkeys brayed in agony as the game petered out into a bore draw. The wicket takers were Pahari, bowling some exotic overs of mystery spin, Sen and Sunil Amar, who took a brace. Mynthurst ended up on 135-4, Henderson top scoring with 41. The game finished with David Behar giving keeper Gore some diving practice down the leg side, which just about summed it all up.

Match Report Neeraj Nayar really got his season going with a well crafted captain's hundred in this ever popular all day fixture. I can't remember if we looked particularly inept while gently patting the ball around before the toss, but if we did we might try it again to influence decisions. With poorly hidden joy we learned that we had been asked to bat.

29 overs passed before Reigate struck a blow, Chris Ledger finally bowled for 53, ending a patient first wicket stand of 126. There was little respite, however, with Unmish, urging Neeraj through what marathon runners refer to as 'the wall', and trying to lose as many balls as he could in the tall trees behind the bowler. Neeraj finally lost his wicket after another century stand for the second wicket and Unmish belted his way to 70 before Kensington declared on 269/3.

The fat total allowed Kensington to set an attacking field and wickets fell regularly. F-man Farrukh Hassan was the pick of the attack, bowling an excellent line to take 3 of the top 4 batsmen. Catches were uncharacteristically held and despite Burnside, Saikia, Pickup and Teague all getting starts, nobody went on to bat out the draw, this Pilgrim's tail proving mercifully concise.

There is a queue forming for the fine food, hospitality, and possible backlash, anticipated for 2006.

Match Report KCC won the toss and elected to bat first on a good, but low and slow, batting pitch. After an entertaining brief innings by opener David Behar was brought to an end with his dismissal by left-armer England, Cheshunt’s best bowler, James Pickles joined skipper Chris Ledger at the crease to commence what turned out to be a lengthy century partnership. After consolidating the innings, scoring at just 3 an over for around 20 overs, an amazing transformation took place after the drinks break. James, in particular, who had been slow to get his eye in, suddenly started flaying the bowling to all parts. After Chris finally departed, caught behind, stylish Aussie Bowden put the boot in, elegantly dismissing a succession of deliveries to the boundary. After drinks, KCC had scored at more than 8 an over to set what we thought was a very challenging target.

Cheshunt had other ideas, sending in a couple of swashbuckling, hard-hitting openers to take the attack to us from the very first ball. Tearing into our rather surprised bowlers in wonderfully bravado Caribbean style, they got Cheshunt’s run chase off to a flying start, scoring at around 7 an over for the first 10 overs. With the initiative seized, the openers never let up, reaching their half-centuries neck-and-neck. After his partner was finally bowled playing his first false shot of the day, Grant went on to score a well-deserved century, powering Cheshunt across the finish line in just 38 overs. On a flat pitch offering little to the bowlers, if we win the toss next year perhaps we should insert the opposition and chase whatever score they can get – certainly that’s what Cheshunt said they would have done themselves if they’d won the toss, and it’s what they generally do.

Match Report The Cambridge students chose to bat and scored a commendable 197 in their 40 overs on a track that offered a bit to the bowlers. Anil Wadija and Sid Sen were the pick of the batsmen and never looked troubled. A late flurry of wickets put on the brakes but Pete Arch saw the innings through.

KCC were always chasing the game from the moment Matt Marshall, Neeraj Nayar Tabrez Khan and Saurav Sen departed in quick succession. From 39/4 it was an uphill climb. Hassan Farooq led a spirited fight-back but his efforts were in vain as the rest succumbed tamely.

Highlight was drinking time in the college bar, as always.

Match Report San called correctly and chose to bat first in this all-day game on a beautiful batting wicket. David Behar and Matt Marshall provided the ideal start putting on 91 together. Both were out stumped shortly before lunch, taken with the score at 113/2. All was set up for the big guns to fire. Alas, it was not to be as the lunchtime ‘port effect’ took hold. First Darren Bowden popped a simple catch to cover, followed almost immediately by San and Ravi Ram. Jamie who had been playing belligerently was aghast when he was taken cleanly in the deep and Ledger and Waqar failed to trouble the scorers; 6 wickets had fallen for 23 runs and KCC at 142/8 were in disarray all at the hands of spinners Matthew Hayward and Aden Trotter. It was left to Neeraj, unbeaten on 14 at no.9, to salvage some respect, if 159 all out could be called that!

But Kensington was not through yet. Two early wickets and some hope as Farrukh Hasan and Matt steamed in. Elias wily as ever picked up 3 wickets to have the home side perilously on 87/6. But a solid innings of 63 by David Allaway supported in a 60 run stand by Aden Trotter put the game beyond KCC.

Match Report A debut as captain for Jason Moores led to the inevitable lost toss and KCC being put into bat. Moores was optimistic and looked upon the lost toss as one less decision he had a chance of getting wrong! Unmish Parthasarathi and Mark Jefferson opened the batting and were welcomed by a fine performance of swing bowling from Balliol captain Pete Dunbar who took both their wickets and ended with figures of 2/10. This brought new boys Saurav Sen and Darren Bowden to the crease who steadied the ship and scored 50 (first for KCC and unfortunately one of 3 KCC run outs) and 28 respectively. The rest of the batsmen chipped in with a few runs here and there but the second highest scorer was extras, which tells the tale of an early season fixture on a slow wicket. The innings was declared on 183/9 and tea was had while plans for defending a very gettable total were hatched.

The defence was ably led by opening bowlers Chetan Singh and John Behar. Chetan bowled a perfect line and length from the first ball and troubled both batsmen with his inswing. Behar’s aggressive offspin from the other end never allowed the batsmen to settle and after eleven overs the opposition were well behind the required run rate. As the opening batsmen tried to lift the scoring rate first change Sunil Amar clean bowled Hextall for a patient 33. This brought Bilyard to the wicket who proceeded to dispatch a procession of KCC bowlers to all parts of the ground with a fine display of clean hitting and threatened to win the match single-handedly. This innings aside, the KCC bowlers kept their collective heads and bowled with great discipline ably backed up by an exceptional fielding display (by KCC standards, anyway). At 155/1 with only 29 required off five overs, the captain turned to his opening batting pair for their bowling prowess. Both Unmish and Mark took much-needed wickets and, more importantly, held the run rate in check. 17 were now needed off the last over and Jefferson bowled a tight line at the batsman’s toes to make sure the target was unachievable. The result, a satisfying draw not least for the nervous debut skipper.

Match Report This early season fixture took us to the picturesque village ground in Bray. After winning the toss and batting M and B were never able to get their innings going losing wickets at regular intervals throughout. At 109/8 they looked in all sorts of trouble but some lusty blows from Ishfaq took them to 151 after their 40 overs. The bowling was sharp, fresh from the winter indoor nets with tight bowling from Matt Marshall (1/27), Farrukh Hasan (2/38), Saurav Sen (1/45) and Jamie Keleher (2/38). However, the highlight of an excellent KCC fielding performance was undoubtedly Ravi Mantha’s amazing, one-handed, reflex diving catch at square leg, off a full-blooded pull which rightly should have gone for four. The batsman was most aggrieved, especially when he saw Ravi drop a dolly next over!!

The early loss of Mantha had little effect on the run chase as Tim Keleher (48 off 41 balls) began to plunder the local attack. Tim was disappointed not to get his fifty as he holed out at mid-wicket. In the meantime, Nayar had dug himself in and with Chris Ledger knocked the ball about to set up a fine win. Both were out within sight of victory which was achieved with 16 balls to spare.

Match Report The second match of the weekend was a timed game played in cool and overcast conditions, but without the severe wind of the previous day. The tactical battles began well before the start, with Entrecasteaux making six changes to Saturday’s team and bringing Frenchman Laurent Amiot into the side. Kensington countered brilliantly by naming fluent French speaker Neeraj Nayar as captain, and when he duly won the toss several minutes of deliberations ensued before a puff of white smoke from the château indicated that the visitors had chosen to field first.

Roshan Perera and Maulik Shah got the innings off to a bright start before Farrukh Hasan struck twice in successive overs, clean bowling Roshan for 21 and having Laurent caught behind for nought. Satpal Randhava, captaining Entrecasteaux for the
the first time, was perilously close to being out lbw first ball to Farrukh’s leg stump yorker, but he was saved by the thinnest of inside edges. The third wicket pair then took the score to 120/2 off 28 overs at lunch, Maulik batting with skill and concentration until chancing his arm off the final ball of the session and sky-ing to long-off, where the chance was spurned. If truth be told, it was not the only chance spilled by KCC, who had difficulties under the high ball! Wickets fell regularly after the interval, with Elias and Michael chipping in with two apiece and skipper Neeraj taking two sharp chances at mid-wicket. But Maulik continued unperturbed, reaching an outstanding 101 before being caught and bowled by Farrukh. The declaration came shortly after with the home side 181/8.

Entrecasteaux made early inroads into the Kensington top order, with Roshan picking up two wickets in a fine opening spell, those of Ravi Mantha and Ledger. When Tabrez Khan was well caught by Uddika at long-on the score was 10/3 after six overs, but San Goré and Neeraj steadied the ship with a partnership of 37 in 18 overs. When the last twenty began Kensington were 65/4 still needing 117 to win, but three quick wickets put paid to any thoughts of a win. Sarwar Chowdari was brilliantly caught in the deep by David Green, reaching up into the sun and clinging on with his right hand, and then Boe was well taken at long-on.

Veteran spinner Trevor Yeomans bowled a wonderful twelve over spell, taking 3 for 25, but it was not quite enough to secure victory, as the ‘Kensington Wall’, San Goré showed great skill and application in batting for forty overs and taking his side to safety. San batted a total of sixty seven overs
